I'll keep this place up dated with all that's coming up at Torfaen Jazz Society

26th March- Makoto Kuriya- born in Kobe, Japan this superb pianist visits with rhythm king and old mate Eric Ford on drums. What a staggering gig, possibly the best TJS has ever seen. Truly stunning playing from 3 people utterly tuned in to each other. To see Erika Lyons dancing with her bass as she played was as sure a sign as anything that something special was happening. Standards such as Love For Sale and Manteca were delivered with refreshing zing and originals like Cherry Blossom showed Kuriyas fabulous compositional skills, the buzz at half time was palpable.

Eric Ford is an unknown at the club but young Andy Hughes was shaking his head and smiling as Eric's rhythmic invetnion and polyrhythmic skill astounded all those in attendance. Lets hope Makoto can make it back in September so other people can witness this incredible player.

Michael Janisch brings the Saxophone summit April 16th.

Young Bryn Davies makes his solo debut on 30th April and Fraser Allibone returns 14th May.

American Banjo Player Jimmy Mazzy visits the clb with the Camelia jazz band on May 7th, this should be a delightful gig for all you trad and old-style lovers.

Folk and roots wizard Will Killeen returns on 21st May, with echoes of Rory Gallagher, Ry Cooder and the swamp, this is a treat for Americana nuts.
